According to a statement issued by the government, the outbreak has now been contained and 79 direct contacts have been put into isolation.

One of the gatherings was reportedly attended by someone who had allegedly arrived into Jersey from a red zone and had reportedly not completed their full term of quarantine. A police investigation has been launched into the alleged offence which can carry a fine of up to £10,000.

The news comes just two days after it was confirmed that restaurants would be allowed to reopen on Monday [22 February] with strict sanitary measures and social distancing in place.

Health Minister Richard Renouf has urged Islanders to adhere to all Covid-19 guidance and rules or risk recently-eased restrictions having to be reimplemented.

‘I want to thank employees across Public Health, Contact Tracing and Enforcement who have prevented a small outbreak from going any further,’ he said.

‘This deliberate flouting of public health advice has led to nine people testing positive so far, and 79 people having to isolate. We will not be able to continue our reconnection plans if this kind of behaviour becomes more prevalent.’
