Lauren Carré is just ten weeks away from competing in the Arnold Classic Pro Show in Australia – one of the most prestigious body-building competitions in the world.
The contest, which was founded and continues to be organised by The Terminator actor and former professional body-builder Arnold Schwarzenegger, runs over three days in Melbourne.
The 28-year-old International Federation of Body-building and Fitness athlete achieved her professional status in 2018 after just a year of serious training, which she said was relatively rare.
In addition to her training regime, the body-builder and emergency call-handler is moving to Melbourne to work as a personal trainer in a gym owned by one of Mr Schwarzenegger’s best friends.
Speaking about her success in the body-building world, Miss Carré said: ‘There are a number of different categories within competitive body-building including bikini and fitness. And I believe I was just born to compete in the fitness level, which involves high-skilled and high fitness routines.
‘It’s not just standing looking at yourself in a mirror wearing a bikini.’
Miss Carré combines body-building poses with athletic routines using her background in gymnastics.
Her preparations in the coming weeks will include cutting carbohydrates from her diet, as well as manipulating her salt and water intake to achieve the
highest muscle definition possible.
Having previously appeared on the reality TV series Big Brother and having modelled for best-selling magazines, Miss Carré now has a large social media presence with more than 40,000 Instagram followers.
Speaking about Jersey’s body-building community as a whole, she said that the sport was experiencing a resurgence locally.
‘It is really heartening to see teenagers getting involved again. And we are seeing the greatest amount of people getting involved in the sport since the 1990s,’ she said.
‘Some of the people who were involved back then stopped body-building to get full-time jobs and have families, but we are seeing a lot of those same people come back to the sport, which is really exciting.’
Miss Carré is due to compete in the Arnold Classic Pro Show fitness category on Saturday 21 March.
