Faulkner Fisheries opened at the site in the late 80s. After the business recently failed to find a replacement staff member, owner Sean Faulkner said the move would give him a chance to slow down as he nears retirement.
Mr Faulkner said he was now looking for someone to take over the lease for the St Helier business.
‘The [St Helier] business was put up for sale in May. I am now 65 years old and my family have been telling me to slow down and this is one less ball that I will have to juggle,’ he said.
‘The person who had been managing it handed in their notice recently and left and, as I had not been able to find anybody as a replacement, it will remain closed until somebody comes along to take the lease over.
‘My L’Etacq business will carry on as normal.
‘I have been at L’Etacq for 39 years and been in the Fish Market for 32 years and it was me that started all of this, so it made it that bit more difficult – it
is my baby, which makes it hard to put down.’
Mr Faulkner added that his changing personal circumstances had meant that he was no longer able to spend enough time running the St Helier outlet.
But he added that the premises had great potential if someone was able to devote more time to it.
‘Certainly things have changed, but it is more that things have changed with me than anything else,’ he said.
‘When you have a business today you need to devote enough time to it to make it do what you want when you want it to do it, and I am struggling to do that.
‘I think if someone comes along that will spend more time on it than me they could make a really good go of it.’
