The site adjacent to the People’s Park has been marketed by the parish through an agent, and the proposed sale to a recommended bidder will be the subject of a parish assembly on 7 August.

St Helier House, which opened in 1963, closed in January 2018 following a decision that it was not feasible to refurbish the building and continue to operate it as a residential home. This followed safety concerns raised by Jersey Fire and Rescue relating to potentially combustible cladding and inadequate safety features.

Remaining residents from the home, which had a maximum capacity of 56, were rehoused, while staff were redeployed to other roles within the parish, including
St Ewold’s Residential Home.

Westmount Nursery has operated from the same site for 45 years. The parish says that it intends to continue to offer nursery services and is seeking an alternative site nearby.

The recommendation to parishioners is that the proceeds of the sale should be allocated to St Helier’s building reserve, used by the parish for projects such as the relocation of the day nursery.

The parish assembly will take place at the Town Hall at 7pm on Wednesday 7 August.
