Jersey road closed after suspicious item found on beach

The States police were called out just before 5 pm and cordoned off the area between the wooden walkway and the bus stop.

Stuart Elliot, the Island’s bomb disposal officer, was called out and removed the device. Following an inspection, it was concluded that the object was unlikely to be munitions.

In a statement, the States police said: ‘The area is safe and the cordons have been lifted. SoJP thank members of the public who bring these matters to the police’s attention in order that officers can ensure the safety of those in the area.

‘These sorts of discoveries on Jersey’s beaches aren’t uncommon and SoJP take the opportunity to remind people that if they spot a suspicious item, they should not move or examine it.

‘[They should] mark the location, contact the police with the exact location and alert others from a distance to stay away without putting themselves in any danger.’
