David Brooks gave Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola another reminder of his quality in the 5-1 FA Cup win over West Brom.
The midfielder, back in the side due to a host of injuries in the Cherries squad, set up three goals in a superb display.
Brooks sent in an inviting cross for Justin Kluivert to cancel out Caleb Taylor’s opener for Albion, and also created Dango Ouattara’s second goal and Antoine Semenyo’s strike early in the second half.
The 27-year-old Welshman, in his seventh season with Bournemouth, was named captain for the third-round clash.
“That was an easy decision,” said Iraola.
“It happened last season, also in a cup game, Swansea away. I’m very pleased with his performance, with the assists, but especially second half.
“We made him play a little bit deeper in the midfield to help us in the build-up and I think we improved on the ball because his decisions on the ball normally are very good.”
Daniel Jebbison rounded off the scoring on a chastening afternoon for Championship promotion-hopefuls West Brom.
“At the end of the day, that’s where we should aspire to be as a football club, where AFC Bournemouth are now,” said interim boss Chris Brunt.
“We want to come up against teams like that every week. We perhaps haven’t had that taster of playing against the quality Bournemouth have.
“It shows the players the levels they need to get to and as a football club we all want to be back experiencing that level of football.
“Hopefully the lads can take a lot out of that game to kick us on for the rest of the season.”
