Could this be the best Thrones-fer unveiling ever?

What is better than football, or than Game of Thrones? Maybe combining the two to unveil your latest signing?

That is exactly what Turkish side Konyaspor did when they announced the signing of four-time African player of the year winner Samuel Eto’o on Wednesday afternoon.

Eto’o moved from relegation rivals Antalyaspor, where he was in temporary charge for five matches last month, and his new club joined in with the recent trend of eccentric social-media videos when unveiling the former Cameroon international.

Konyaspor used the theme song and graphics from the popular US television show, but instead of visiting the different kingdoms of Westeros, the Super Lig side looked back at the 36-year-old’s career.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Chelsea and Everton were the teams which were depicted alongside their team logo and stadium as the video moved across a map – similarly to the show – before ending at his new club.

Konyaspor also referenced the striker as: Samuel Stormborn of the House Eto’o, First of His Name, The Unburnt, King of the Forwards, Breaker of Chains and Father of Eagles – in relation to Daenerys Targaryen from the programme – before finishing with a picture of the striker sitting on the ‘Iron Throne’.

Fans will be hoping Eto’o can live up to his new title and score goals to lead second-from-bottom Konyaspor away from the drop zone.
