Rock and rollers Showaddywaddy played two sold-out concerts a the Fort in July 1980, a triumphant return after delighting audiences the year before. The chart-topping Leicester band whose hits included Under the Moon of Love and You Got What it Takes, had “everyone from toddlers to grannies on their feet, clapping their hands above their heads”, the JEP reported afterward. “Only the gang of teddyboys who were forced into their seats after jiving in the wings could have felt hard done by, as Showaddywaddy pumped out it after hit”. The band would return to the Island for a third stint at the Fort in 1982.
