JERSEY RFC’S last home game of the new year welcomed bottom side Reading to their St Peter ground.
The hosts ran away with it in the first half, scoring five tries to go into the break 31-0.
To their credit, Reading did their best to stem the tide, even scoring a consolation at the death, but the match once again showed how dominant Jersey are at this level. The match finished 48-7 and gave the men in red their 12th win from 12 games at the top of the Regional 2 South Central League.
Colt Callum Cuthbert produced a player of the match performance and scored the first try after just a few minutes.
Sam Harvey then followed up with another try soon after.
Head coach Myles Landick said: “it was an excellent performance considering the tough conditions. Reading were a physical side and we defended well when we needed to. I was pleased to only concede one try.”
Nathan Rogers helped himself to two tries of five that were scored before half-time.
Reading dug deep to plug the leaky holes in their defence and limit Jersey three tries in the second half, but it was a walk in the park for the home side, with Charlie Hubert completing a hat-trick.
Jersey travel to Wimborne for their final game of the year on Saturday.
