JERSEY REDS gripped the RFU Championship trophy with one hand after twice coming from behind to beat fierce rivals Ealing Trailfinders at St Peter.

The Islanders made themselves favourites to claim the second-tier title for the first time with a 19-13 victory on Saturday – sending them two points clear at the top of the table with just one game remaining.

Despite two penalties from visiting kicker Steven Shingler and a touchdown for flanker Rob Farrar, tries from dynamic centre Alex McHenry, mauling prop Sam Grahamslaw and speedy winger Will Brown earned the Reds a second consecutive win over Ealing – following a run of 11 straight defeats to a side that many had tipped to win the Championship with relative ease this term.

The result means Jersey need only to match Ealing’s performance on the final day of the season. The Reds host Ampthill at Stade Santander on Saturday [3pm] while Ealing travel to Doncaster Knights.
