RFU Championship: Jersey Reds count their lucky stars

London Scottish kicker Harry Sheppard missed two late attempts to give his side victory over Jersey Reds at St Peter

A MISSED penalty kick in the final minute saved Jersey Reds the embarrassment of throwing away a Championship win at home to London Scottish.

After matching their hosts stride for stride Scottish had two chances to steal the game at St Peter on Saturday, but Harry Sheppard’s last-ditch drop-goal attempt – and central penalty from 25 metres at the death – failed to split the posts.

Jersey ended the day with five league points to their name thanks to a four-try haul, with Will Brown (two), Eoghan Clarke and Brendan Owen all crossing the whitewash in a 24-22 win. Wayward conversions from both sides kept the scores modest, with just two from eight finding their target.
