Ealing end Jersey Reds' unbeaten run

TWO Ealing tries from two line-outs put paid to Jersey Reds’ chances of getting an early edge over their London rivals in what could be an enthralling 2022/23 season.

In a summit meeting in the capital, between the Championship’s two unbeaten sides, Harvey Biljon’s side struck first in the cup group-stage clash through a Russell Bennett penalty kick, but they conceded a penalty try when the fly-half was sin-binned for a cynical foul.

A well-worked try by Reds’ second-row forward James Scott, while the Islanders were a man down, meant they had a worthy 13-10 lead at half-time.

But champion Ealing Trailfinders came back immediately after the break, with hooker Shaun Malton and inside centre Pat Howard scoring from set-pieces in Reds’ 22-metre area and Biljon’s men we’re unable to score again.
