JERSEY REDS WOMEN have patiently waited since the opening game of the season for some favourable matchday weather.

Simon Le Moignan’s side ensured that the wait was worth every second.

In the Hove sunshine, on a dry pitch – it was a day for the backs to fill their boots and they duly obliged.

Winger Georgina Ruellen scored four tries on her first start for the team, while outside centre Gemma Dufty added two of her own before being withdrawn through injury.

Fullback Izzy Culnane also grabbed a try and Emilie Langlands went over for her first try of the season, after seeing many efforts in previous games held up just shy of the try line.

Several of the Reds Women’s tries stemmed from quick ball movement between Emily Hart and Lauren Lowe, at scrum-half and fly-half respectively.

Their quick hands opened up the space for Ruellen and Dufty to drive through and score, almost at will.

Kim Vallance converted six of eight attempts, adding 12 points from her boot in what was a superb, well rounded performance from the Caesareans.

Le Moignan said: ‘It was such a complete performance, from both forwards and backs.

‘I think we won every single scrum and our set pieces were brilliant.

‘The backs were brilliant in defence. We have worked on not contesting at the breakdown if the ball is in the opposition’s possession. Then we would focus on resetting to hit them in defence, to avoid giving them any time with ball in hand.

‘They were all fabulous from top to bottom.

‘Everything we do now is in preparation for the double-header Siam Cup in May.

‘We have had huge help from James Newey and Ryan Olowofela this season, as well as other members of the first team. They have been brilliant and I think it has really shown with some of the rugby the girls have been playing of late.’

Le Moignan’s team are next in action this Sunday, away to Worthing Warriors, who they beat 51-5 in the reverse fixture in February.
