Jets' journey into the unknown

AS their young season unfolds, the newly-formed Team Jets 2 have absolutely risen to their Regional League 3 North challenge.

Nicole Goddard, Team Jets 2 player and coach, said: “They’re such a great bunch of girls.

“They work hard, they play hard, and they all get on really well. There’s loads of good vibes around the team.

“It’s nice as well because they really support each other and bring out the best in each other, I think that’s really shown over the last four games.”

Four wins from four, Goddard’s squad are in possession of the coveted top spot, and remain one of two unbeaten sides along with Raychem Squiers.

Set for yet another double-header, the teams in the Islanders’ sights this weekend are Trident and Hucclecote Hurricanes.

Looking to maintain their strong start, up first for the Jets is Trident, a “somewhat unknown” team who finds themselves in a less-than-ideal position heading into the fifth week of the season.

Having secured only one win thus far in a tight affair against bottom-of-the-barrel Chippenham, Trident appear to be struggling in their RL3 North league campaign.

A promising sign for the local team ahead of tomorrow’s clash, but, as Goddard wisely put it: “There are no easy games in this league and because it’s so early in the season it’s hard to tell what a team is going to come out like.”

Sunday’s fixture, however, sees a more familiar challenge for the Caesareans in the form of Hucclecote Hurricanes.

“They’re a Gloucester-based team,” Goddard explained, “I know that area, the club and the coaches well up there, so I know that game is going to be a tough one.

“They’re always going to be a smart, technical and well-drilled team, their coaches are really good so they’ll be able to match and counter our tactics as much as we do theirs.

They would have attracted some good quality players also.”

After not facing any league games last weekend, Goddard concluded: “It’s always nice after having a break like that to be able to get back out there, put what we have done in practice to the test.

“So, we’re happy to get back out there.”
