Two wins will do for Team Jets

TEAM JETS have just one weekend of Regional League action remaining to secure a Premier League play-off berth.

The Islanders currently sit four points clear of Wimborne Aquarians A in the race, with a double-header against table-toppers Premier Romans and Mavericks left on the schedule.

However, coach Linda Andrews is facing a selection headache, with several first-choice players unavailable.

Becca Forrest is sidelined indefinitely with a torn ACL, while Lauren Devine and Jodie Blampied are both ruled out.

With that in mind, Andrews has named two new players, in the shape of Chloe Lagadu and Georgina Ruellan, with the view to giving them court time before the squad potentially battles for promotion.

Although Jets have not played in nearly a month their rich run of form since December has propelled them up the South West Division I table.

Six wins from the last seven has put them in the driving seat to take second place and secure the sole play-off spot – leaders Premier Romans A already have club colleagues playing in the national pyramid so are ineligible to move up.

Andrews said: ‘We are excited to be playing this weekend after a long break, and fully prepared for the challenges ahead.

‘With the Super 5 tournament and inter-insular games filling the gap we have been keeping the competition element of our netball on track.

‘With new players to be introduced to our game in the defence end we will need to fully exert our game plan to our advantage and be quick to adapt to the Mavericks game.

‘The solid attacking unit is getting stronger every week and expanding their unit principles.’

She added: ‘If we win both our games we will have secured a place in the play-offs. If not, a win and a loss within five goals will also give us enough points.’

The Caesareans will be keen on a return to the national league system, which would bring the guarantee of regular home games. They have not played a league match in Jersey since their relegation in 2019.
