Life’s a beach for volleyball at Gunsite

The Jersey Volleyball Association welcomes 15 different teams for their tournament tomorrow at the Gunsite Cafe, St Aubin's Bay (38572077)

THE Jersey Volleyball Association is holding a beach volleyball tournament series at the Gunsite Café in St Aubin’s Bay tomorrow.

With the so-called “summer” upon us and the JVA’s incredibly successful indoor season at an end, the beach season is firmly under way.

Unfortunately, due to the recent spell of shoddy weather, players haven’t been able to get out on court as much as they would have liked.

Originally, the tournament was meant to occur on 15 June. However, it was postponed due to poor weather.

Fortunately, the weather forecast is finally on the up and players are looking forward to getting out on the beach.

With the event sign-ups now closed, the tournament has 15 teams across both men’s and women’s doubles events.

Games are expected to start at 10am and finish around 5pm.

The day is expected to be full of excitement with plenty of matches played across the morning and afternoon.

JVA men’s player and head coach Ed Parslow said: “The sun’s out, there’s only a little wind and there’ll be music on. It’s going to be an amazing time.”

Ciaran Westgate, the beach volleyball lead coach, is hoping to use this event to assess the levels of the players and formulate a ranking system based on the results.

Therefore, players will be hoping to bring their “A” game.

While the event is sure to attract many familiar faces from the Island’s volleyball community, the high level of play and the fun and inclusive atmosphere is hoping to bring some new faces down.

After all of the games have concluded, a prize-giving will be held and the organisers will be hosting a relaxing barbecue open to both players and spectators.

All spectators are welcome.
