JERSEY’S volleyball players are set for a busy weekend as the men’s, ladies and junior teams travel to Guernsey for the inter-insular.
Men’s player/coach Ed Parslow said: “We’re all so excited for this weekend.”
Volleyball has enjoyed continued growth in the Channel Islands, with both Jersey and Guernsey’s men’s and women’s teams competing in the Hampshire Volleyball Association league.
For Jersey, they have really hit the ground running, winning five of their six matches in Group A, while the women sit unbeaten with a 100% record from their opening five fixtures.
Guernsey, meanwhile, are also flying the Channel Islands flag strongly, with both teams holding a 100% record.
The men occupy top spot in Group B with eight wins from eight, and the women have won four from four.
“Guernsey are in a similar boat to us,” added Parslow.
“We have both put in huge amounts of work in the last couple of years to reach the Hampshire league and we’re both doing really well in it.
“Although Guernsey won the inter-insular last year, we feel we have made massive strides in both teams both on and off the court.”
The Caesareans are set to travel to Guernsey on Friday, where the Men’s A and B teams will take on their Sarnian counterparts.
Both Ladies teams and the mixed junior squad will compete on Saturday.
To add to an already hectic weekend, the men will leave Guernsey bound for Hampshire on Saturday evening to complete in their third round of HVA league fixtures on Sunday.
The player/coach continued: “It’s going to be a mad weekend, but we are totally prepared.
“These weekends are exactly what we want.
“We have worked so hard, having paid our own travel expenses and making it all happen ourselves.
“Win or lose, we will be incredibly proud of ourselves and competing in these events is a privilege.”
