SWIMMERS from Swim Easy Jersey won a staggering 35 medals at this year’s North West Regional Special Olympic Gala in Liverpool.
Representing Jersey, the 15-strong squad took to the water to compete against 20 other teams from across the UK and the Isle of Man.
The swimmers showed tremendous form once again in representing Jersey at the gala, with the medal count including 15 golds, ten silvers and ten bronze.
No fewer than 40 personal best swims were achieved, highlighting great improvement on last year’s times.
“We could not have asked for more,” said Swim Easy coaches Ken Sheehan and Melissa Sheehan.
“Their performance is on the right track and staying at or just outside the medals showing that there is more to come,” they added.
“To improve, we have to compete against other teams to build on our success and keep the Jersey flag flying.”
The four competitors from Swim Easy Jersey’s ladies team earned themselves six medals between them as well as nine personal bests.
Meanwhile, the 11 Swim Easy men achieved 29 medals and 30 personal bests.
Swim Easy Jersey extended their thanks to the Sir James Knott Trust for their support, the regular Swim Easy Jersey learn to swim programme in funding the trips, as well as the ESC for the pool time given in allowing the team to practise.
Also to coaches Mel and Ken Sheehan and Angela Gueguen for being their parent/first aider and the supporters who made the journey.
