THE 155th Imperial Meeting started in earnest on Friday 12 July and the Jersey Rifle Association contingent have had plenty to shout about.
Barry Le Cheminant proved the pick of the bunch winning the Conan Doyle competition, which is shot at 900 yards and is one of the 13 competitions that make up the Grand Aggregate.
From a field of 704 competitors, including past world champions and multiple international representatives, Le Cheminant shot the only perfect 50.10, being all ten shots in the central V bull.
Speaking on his win Le Cheminant said: “I am absolutely delighted.
“I was shooting on a very good target and we had a nice rhythm, my partners also scored 50.09 and 50.08.
“For my last attempt, I was just trying to think about the technical aspects of firing a good shot and holding it all together, which fortunately I did.”
Le Cheminant also came sixth in the Admiral Hutton competition, again scoring 50 at 900 yards but with seven V bulls.
He first competed in the Imperial in 1978, showing that age is no barrier in the sport of target rifle shooting.
On a successful day for the Le Cheminant contingent, brother Andrew fired all 35 of his shots into the bull, going “clean” over the three Saturday competitions which start the Grand Aggregate and standing in ninth place after day one with a total of 175.24 with four days still to go.
Barry Le Cheminant continued his fine vein of form on Sunday.
Losing only one point out of 150, he is now one of three shooters going into a tie shoot for the Corporation Trophy title, after a score of 50.7 from 1000 yards.
The tie shoot will take place later in the week.
Barry Le Cheminant score of one shy of a perfect score on Sunday placed him in a very impressive third place in the Sunday Aggregate overall standings.
The remaining two Sunday shoots were ten rounds from both 500 and 600 yards.
High scores of 50 were shot by Richard Benest and Barry Le Cheminant (50.08) in the Daily Mail from 500 yards, and Mary Norman (50.05) and Colin Mallett (50.04) in the Alexandra from 600 yards.
