OVER 1,500 spectators visited Les Quennevais skatepark last weekend for a debut event that saw local and national stars showcase skate culture in a “jam-style” carnival.
Bowl à Crock, organised by non-profit organisations Skate Space and Skateboard Jersey, welcomed the public to witness gravity-defying skills, art and live music.
Wheelchair motocross world champion Tomas Woods was one of the athletes welcomed to showcase the action sport in Jersey for the first time and lead introductory sessions to local wheelchair users.
Due to its success, and described as “One of the best skate events in the UK this year”, bigger and bolder renditions are already on the cards for the future, according to organisers.
Natalie Mayer, of Skate Space, said: “Bowl à Crock exceeded all our expectations, transforming the skatepark into a vibrant hub of culture and creativity.
“We welcomed around 1,500 people throughout the day, with attendees from UK, France, Guernsey, and beyond. The energy was infectious, and it’s been incredible hearing from professional skateboarders eager to join future events.
“Having Skateboard GB describe it as ‘undoubtedly one of the best skate events in the UK this year’ speaks volumes about Jersey’s potential to become a key player in youth culture. We’re already dreaming bigger for next year, with plans to build on this momentum and make it even more impactful.
“Huge thanks to Sure, Government of Jersey and all our incredible volunteers who are the lifeblood of this event.”
