Archie’s latest victory seals shift to Silver

The victorious snooker star Archie Greier

TEN-YEAR-OLD snooker superstar Archie Greier added to his trophy collection at the end of season Cuestars league tournament in Swindon last weekend.

As with the rest of his impressive 12 months, Greier played well above his age bracket at U21 Bronze, competing against players twice his age.

To reach the middle of the table, the snooker prodigy often has to stand on his tiptoes or use a cue extension to beat his opponents.

The Samarès pupil did well in the first round robin games, of one frame each, losing only one out of three.

Moving to the quarter and semi-final, he won easily at 2-0 in each.

In the final, he came out on top against a strong competitor, winning 2-1.

The win is Greier’s impressive third tournament this season at U21 Bronze level, after winning in Woking last October and again in Coulsdon in December.

Professional player Joe Perry, the ambassador of youth snooker scheme Cuestars, presented Greier with his trophy.

He also took him on in a match, as with the other top boys and girls of their age groups.

As always, Greier practised at Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club in the days leading up to the tournament. This is where many rising snooker stars come together and improve their game.

With the season at its end, Greier can look forward to celebrating the centenary of Jersey’s Billiard and Snooker Association this week by meeting top player Jimmy White at the Radisson – and maybe winning the opportunity to play against him.

September sees the start of the new snooker season where Archie will progress to Silver level in the Cuestars league.
