ROUND 4 of Jersey Cycling’s Cyclocross series brought an energy and excitement to a cold and wet Les Quennevais Sports Centre on Sunday.
49 riders, from fearless youngsters to seasoned veterans, took to the course for what was a day of gripping battles, impressive displays, and plenty of mud-splattered fun.
The youth riders kicked off the action, setting the tone for a day of high spirits. Arthur Le Moignan got things rolling with a victory in the Under 6 race, followed by a gutsy ride from Henry Pitcher to win the Under 8 category.
George Robinson showed great form to take the Under 10 win, and Alex Le Sueur rounded out the youth races with a strong performance in the Under 12s.
The competition only got fiercer as the Ladies, vet50-60, and Youth Male categories hit the course.
Mark Ecobichon took control of the race from the start, leaving Jamie Griffiths chasing hard. Ecobichon’s relentless pace saw him clinch both the overall win and the vet50 category.
Meanwhile, Lisa Mansell and Harley Cadoret gave the crowd something to cheer for with a neck-and-neck duel in the ladies’ race. Mansell eventually edged ahead, holding off Cadoret in a thrilling finale.
Mike Osborne took the vet60 crown, and Milo Skuce shone in the Youth Male category to take another impressive win.
The final showdown of the day didn’t disappoint. The Open Senior, Junior, and vet40 race was an adrenaline-filled spectacle.
Liam Cadoret went full throttle from the start, seizing the lead after an early mistake from series leader Jay Cracknell. From there, Cadoret never looked back, powering to an emphatic victory.
Cracknell fought hard to keep Rhys Hidrio at bay and secured second place, with Hidrio finishing third.
Luke Holmes took the Junior honours with a solid ride, and Adam Wojtkiewicz topped the vet40 category with skill and strength.
The organisers would like to thank the marshals, officials, and Normandy Rescue for ensuring the day ran smoothly, as well as Jersey Cycling, Group Legendre, and Les Quennevais Sports Centre for making the event possible.
Looking ahead, the festive Jingle Cross takes place on Boxing Day and is a firm favourite with riders and spectators. Further details can be found at Cyclocross Jersey and Jersey Cycling’s social media pages.
