JERSEY Cricket have announced a youthful squad for the European Cricket Championships in Malaga, Spain, beginning tomorrow through till 14 October.
The young Caesareans have been drawn against last year’s finalists Netherlands along with Italy, Sweden and Norway.
All fixtures are played in the T10 format and will be televised live online via the European Cricket Network YouTube channel.
Last year, Jersey progressed through their group to gain a place in the championship week.
Following the recent conclusion of the ICC CWC Challenge League A tournament in Kenya, a large number of players are either unavailable, rested due to workload management, or have work commitments.
Therefore, only seamer Dan Birrell and all-rounder Stan Norman retain their places in a new-look squad that includes a number of U19s cricketers who will be taking part in the U19 World Cup Qualifiers next summer.
Head coach Paul Hutchison said: “I’m really looking forward to working with some other players who currently sit outside the group that recently toured Zimbabwe and Kenya.
“This opportunity gives these players first-hand experience against good opponents.
“It’s a fast-paced and unforgiving format which should provide great entertainment and learning opportunities.
“We have a number of U19s in the squad and it will be good exposure ahead of a big tournament next summer.
“Additionally, the older players can put their name into the hat for the full squad as we have T20 World Cup qualifiers next summer too.”
