JERSEY Women’s national cricket team travel to Germany today to take on the hosts and Italy in a T20I tri-series, to be played over three days of matches in Krefeld.

The squad were due to take part in a practice session on arrival, before the action gets underway tomorrow with back-to-back games.

The series marks the national team’s return to ICC action, having played both sides at the ICC Women’s T20 European Division 2 Qualifier in Jersey last year, where Islanders agonisingly missed out on promotion.

A convincing seven-wicket victory against Italy, bowling out the visitors for just 42, was followed up by an eight-wicket loss to Germany.

With prior results in mind, the series looks sure to be a competitive one.

Head coach Darren Thomas said: “The squad are really looking forward to the tri-series.

“The cricket is likely to be a step up from the recent inter-insular victories, so the players will need to be on the top of their games for the duration of the series.

“The schedule of T20 cricket is intense. Stamina is going to come into play, so it’s going to be interesting to see how all teams manage that.

“The series will provide great exposure to see how our skills, awareness and standards are developing.”

Captain Chloe Greechan added: “It’s an important series for us as we get the chance to perform on the international stage against two good teams.

“The team are feeling good, we’ve trained well and are excited for this one.

“We won’t be taking Germany or Italy lightly, but we know on our day we are a tough team to beat.”
