THE Jersey women’s national cricket team secured inter-insular honours against Guernsey after a thumping 104-run victory at Grainville on Sunday.
Hard-hitting all-rounder Charlie Miles starred with the bat, smashing her new high score of 68 off just 42 balls, including nine boundaries.
“Sunday was a class day,” said Jersey captain Chloe Greechan.
“Our bowling innings was a real team performance and everyone stepped up in their role.
“Grace [Wetherall] and Charlie [Miles] were excellent in showing what they can do with the bat.
“But Flo [Copley] in her final game was incredible, to take three wickets in the middle overs was superb and what a way to go out for a genuine legend of the women’s game on the Island.
“On and off the field, this team are class and it’s exciting to think how far we can go.
“Our full focus turns to Germany and Italy in a couple weeks’ time now and we will be full of confidence heading in to those crucial tournaments.”
Batting first, Jersey posted a strong score of 157, bowled out with one over to spare.
Miles was undoubtedly the pick of the batting innings, ably supported by Trinity Smith (22) and Greechan, who finished unbeaten on 14.
The innings got off to a flier with openers Aimee Aikenhead and Analise Merritt taking 18 from the first two overs before the former was dismissed.
Miles joined Merritt at the crease and made the wicket her stage for the afternoon.
In her sights were every Sarnian bowler, who each received a brutal onslaught from the bat of Miles.
The one exception for the Guernsey attack was the mightily impressive teenage spinner Molly Robinson, who returned excellent figures of four wickets for just 15 runs in her four-over spell.
Guernsey captain Krista De La Mare was also excellent behind the stumps, contributing four dismissals to her team’s cause.
With Jersey’s dominance in this fixture so strong in recent years, 158 for victory was always going to be a tall order, and it proved just that.
Captain Greechan took the new ball with her wily left-arm spin and produced a remarkable spell of three overs that cost only two runs, but a deserved wicket would evade the Caesarean.
However, it was the superb work of Sophie Hanson who got the breakthrough midway through the fourth over.
The pressure grew and Guernsey opener Rosie Davis found her stumps disturbed for just two.
Hanson would finish with three wickets for just seven runs, including the final wicket of Eva Bourgaize to seal the deal.
The pace duo of Merritt and Wetherall took three wickets for 13 runs between them.
However, in her final ever inter-insular, Jersey legend Flo Copley signed off with a fantastic spell of four overs, three wickets for 15 runs.
Copley also took a catch in her final match, earning rousing praise from Greechan.
