JERSEY claimed their first CWC Qualifier Play-off win, in dramatic fashion over a gritty Papua New Guinea.
The Caesareans beat the Oceanic side by 11 runs, following defeats against both Canada and hosts Namibia,which put themselves firmly back in the conversation to secure One Day International status – and a million-dollar ICC cash injection – for 2024-27.
After electing to bat first, the Islanders put together an instrumental third wicket stand between Asa Tribe and Josh Lawrenson.
Both players recorded maiden ODI centuries, with the former making 115 from 143 deliveries and the latter 114 from just 105 balls.
Papau New Guinea, chasing 291, lost wickets early as they looked to play their way into the game.
Some stout mid-order batting from Assad Vala (75), Riley Hekure (58), and Charles Amini (54) gave their side a sniff.
Jersey were not to be denied however, and Julius Sumerauer’s back to back wickets in the 48th over took the wind out of their opponents sails to grab their maiden victory of the play-offs.
