ST OUEN-SPRINGFIELD and Beeches were both handed a mixed bag of results on the opening night of JEP Knockout Trophy action for 2022.

Following two preliminary-round forfeits a week earlier, the competition finally got under way on Friday, with eight teams in contention for a spot in the quarter-finals.

Grant Thornton Beeches 2nds coasted into the last-eight at Nedbank’s expense, having posted a formidable first-innings total of 176 with the help of Joel Dudley [51] and Jamie Henderson [43]. Nedbank reached 82/8 in their reply – limited by the bowling of Tom Shenton, who claimed three wickets for just six runs.

Integritas St Ouen-Springfield 1sts were awarded a walkover victory after Beeches’ De La Salle squad did not field a team, but their second XI were beaten.

Simon Varley scored 61 as SOS hit 117/7 in their 15-over spell, but an unbeaten opening partnership between Deepak Venkatrathnam [40] and Talha Nasir [78] steered Santander International Royals through.

Royals will meet Trafalgar Pirates in the quarter-finals – a side who are unbeaten in this competition since 2019 – while Beeches’ two remaining teams will go head-to-head for a place in the semi-finals. St Helier will meet SOS 1sts and Aztec St John Spitfires are set to face Rathbones OV’s, who beat RGA Walkovers Rebels by seven wickets in the first round after chasing down a target of 89 for victory.
