ROYAL Jersey’s bid to become the second Island outfit in succession to claim the coveted Hampshire County Sevens, boils down to tomorrow’s finals day at Rowlands Castle.
Dan Burchell’s selected seven face Southwick Park tomorrow morning in the semi-final and, if successful, will meet either Hockley or Liphook in the afternoon final.
Following Les Mielles remarkable win last year, the first in the club’s history, Royal Jersey will bid to keep the esteemed trophy in the Island for a second straight year.
The Royal booked their place in finals day in dramatic fashion, overturning a 1-3 deficit on away soil at Guernsey’s L’Ancresse, to win 4-3 CI Final.
Aiden Wilson, just 13 years old, has shown remarkable grit to win all four of his matches for Royal Jersey en route to the final four and has been selected to travel to Hampshire tomorrow.
Team captain Burchell said: “We have a well balanced team and we have tried to reflect loyalty towards those who have contributed to the journey so far.
“Selection is never easy and we have some great players who are not in the team this time.
“I’m very confident in those selected and really excited to go and test ourselves against well-known clubs in Hampshire on an unfamiliar course to us.
“The team are looking forward to it and hoping to become the fourth side from Royal Jersey to win the trophy, since it was first contested in 1966.
