Wheway Memorial Trophy

AFTER a shock league defeat at the hands of St Peter, St Clement put that disappointment firmly in their rear view to dispatch rivals Grouville 4-1 in the semi-final of the Wheway Memorial Trophy.

The ongoing tussle between the top two in Premiership 1 has captivated local football fans throughout the campaign, and this time it was the Anchors turn to cheer, to set up a final on 22 April at Springfield against Guernsey Rovers.

In a dominant display, it was youngster Seaney McColgan who opened the scoring after just five minutes. Mark Logue added the second on 34 minutes, before Alfie Queree’s 42-minute strike put the hosts 3-0 in front at the break.

Grouville managed to score in the second-half through substitute Harry Ecobichon, but Darren Coyle, who is in remarkable scoring form this season, added one of his own to seal a 4-1 win.

Jayson Lee Memorial Trophy

Elsewhere, we saw cup success celebrated at Springfield Stadium for St Ouen’s O35s, who sealed the Jayson Lee Memorial Trophy in dramatic fashion.

Vincent Gilbert scored in the 15th and 25th minute to put the westerners 2-0 up, before St Clement’s Robert Telfer scored just a minute later to reduce the deficit.

James Styles restored St Ouen’s two-goal advantage, before Telfer again struck as St Clement trailed 3-2 at the break. Telfer secured an incredible hat-trick in the 70th minute to create a grandstand finish between the O35 sides.

In the dying embers, Gilbert, who started the scoring on the day, had the final say.
His 89th-minute strike for his hat-trick sealed a remarkable 4-3 victory for St Ouen, who currently sit on eight wins from eight in the O35s league campaign.

Women’s Division

Meanwhile, in the Women’s Division, Rozel Rovers cemented their position in second spot behind runaway leaders Guernsey FC. Charley Skinner’s hat-trick led the way in a convincing 10-0 victory.

Skye Da Silva and Emily Le Page both scored twice, while Ella Docherty, Ma-Ya Larsson and Lucy Even all got in on the act for the victors.

Premiership 2

As Premiership 1 took a weekend break, St John secured their return to the top tier of Jersey football for the first time in a decade, with an 8-2 win over First Tower United in the Premiership 2.

Carl Duncan and Kushal Frankson scored a brace apiece, while Mailen Hughes, Cole Brennan, Jay Newton and Daniel Stevens all netted. Luke O’Connor and James Le Lievre were the scorers for Tower.

St John now have nine wins and a draw from ten games and are guaranteed a top-two finish at the worst. They sit seven points clear of St Ouen in second, who have two games spare over the leaders in the title race.

Elsewhere, Dragoes de Jersey kept their promotion hopes alive with a 4-0 victory over bottom-placed St Lawrence. The game was goalless at the interval, but super-sub Pedro Martins added two quick goals after the break, before Jose Rodrigues and Vitor Gouveia sealed all three points.

It proved a much tighter affair in the remaining Premiership 2 match, as Sports Club of Jersey edged out Rozel Rovers 1-0 courtesy of Tiago Henriques.

Championship 2

In Championship 2, league leaders Grouville C were made to fight against bottom side Trinity, edging victory 2-3 after a stunning Nathan Davies hat-trick. Gabriel Medeiros and Harry Henderson were on target for Trinity.

St Ouen’s C stayed just three points adrift of Grouville with a 1-0 win over St John Reserves thanks to Jack Bara’s lone goal.

It was far more routine for Rozel Rovers Reserves, who breezed past Sporting Academics Reserves 1-5* away from home, despite Yogesh Ramnochane’s goal for the hosts.

PW Touzel Memorial Trophy

There was more cup action taking place, as Jersey Wanderers Reserves booked their place in the PW Touzel Memorial Trophy final with a 6-2 win over St Peter Reserves.

Jack Browning and Kyle Stratford were both at the double, with Finn Hougardy and Jared Trevor also netting. Jay Bertalli and Alex Kilpatrick’s strikes for St Peter, proved in vain.
Wanderers will face St Clement Reserves in the final at Springfield on 22 May.

Over 35 Division

There was just one game in the O35s Division, with Portuguese FC of Jersey coasting to a 0-5 win over Grouville at Le Boulivot. Luis Vieira and Stephen O’Brien both scored twice, with a single from Roberto Da Silveira.
