SPORTS management agency Sixteen93 have hosted their first USA Soccer Scholarship evening in Jersey.
On Friday 1 November, aspiring football players from Jersey met at Springfield Stadium to learn more about what a USA Soccer Scholarship entails and the opportunities it can provide.
During the evening, Sixteen93 spoke with both parents and prospective student athletes about the scholarship application process, as well as what it takes to secure a successful placement.
They also discussed their team’s experience in the industry, backed by a strong coaching network, allowing them to provide high quality guidance and support for young, talented aspiring student-athletes.
Following the presentation, 22 footballers, aged between 15-19, competed against each other in a practical trial to demonstrate their skills and technical abilities.
Speaking about the evening, Kristian Moore-Cowell, director and co-founder of Sixteen93 commented: “We were really excited to come to Jersey and see the skill and ability of young footballers in the Channel Islands.
“We knew the Channel Islands had a great reputation for nurturing young sporting talent, but were totally blown away by the passion, commitment and skill of the players we met with.
“We also had incredibly engaging conversations with parents, which gave us the opportunity to explain more about how scholarships work and the strong pastoral care we put in place to ensure their child is supported every step of the way.
“Overall, it was a really successful visit and we are looking forward to continuing to build our relationship with the Channel Islands.”
Each student-athlete journey is different and uniquely shaped to their skills and goals. It is a long process that generally begins 18 months before the university or college programme officially begins.
The team at Sixteen93 are now evaluating the skills of the players they met in Jersey and are continuing discussions with them and their parents.
