LA MOYE School’s under-11 girls football team are celebrating their Channel Island School’s champion status and subsequent qualification for the South-West Regional finals by welcoming in the Jersey Football Association to the school for a day of football festivities.
The U11 girls team are set to fly to Bristol on 16 March for the English Schools’ Football Association (ESFA) South-West Regional finals, where they will compete against other qualifying schools from the area in a bid to contest the National School crown later in the year.
This Friday, the St Brelade-based school are set to welcome members of the JFA coaching team, as well as some “star guests” into the school for the event.
The primary school students will don dress-down clothes with a football theme, as well as enjoying a football-themed cake sale.
The JFA members plan to host an assembly for the children to learn more about the role they play and ask questions of their own.
Running throughout the course of the day will be a football tournament for all year groups in the playground, as well as a training session from the coaches for the aforementioned girls U11 team.
The day will provide a vital opportunity for La Moye School’s girls to receive top-level coaching and training from some of the best coaches Jersey has to offer.
Laura Boyle, business manager at La Moye School, said: “It’s an incredibly exciting day planned.
“What an opportunity for our girls to receive some specialised training ahead of their travels for the regional finals. It will be a massive help for them and we’re cheering them on all the way.
“It’s so great to have the JFA and Jersey Sport support our girls.
“Women’s sport in general is on the rise and moments like this need to be celebrated.
“Our team have achieved a great thing by reaching the stage they have in the competition, so we’re delighted that has been recognised.”
As well as the girls team, the school are excited for all students to get to participate across the day whether in the assembly asking questions, or out on the pitch in the tournament.
“The day is going to be inclusive for everyone,” Boyle continued.
“Our kids are so excited for it and I’m sure we’ll be seeing many football teams’ shirts being proudly shown off.”
