Lorne Bickley celebrates his late equaliser against Knaphill Picture: ADRIAN TOPLEY

JERSEY Bulls’ last-gasp equaliser against Knaphill was “a little bit of justice” according to their prolific forward.

After a frustrating day at Springfield Stadium, there was an air of resignation from the home faithful. However, Lorne Bickley’s 12th goal in 15 games snatched a draw against an outfit his team have struggled against in recent years.

It was a point that keeps Gary Freeman’s men above their Surrey-based foe and the hallmark of a team that has a “sense of spirit” about them.

Not only did they have to find a goal at the eleventh hour, the hosts were reduced to ten men entering additional time when the experienced Luke Watson received a second yellow card.

“We were a bit hard done by, to be honest,” reflected Bickley.

“We could have easily had a couple of penalties in the first half, which would have changed the entire complexion of the game. It was really tough for us after going a goal down.

“They are a frustrating side to come from behind against. But all in all, I am very happy at how we dug deep and managed to grab a point at the end. It’s a long season, but that draw could end up being massive.”

Bickley has formed a good rapport with Jack Boyle, who has endured a frustrating journey back to fitness, after a couple of a years of suffering from major injury problems.

His tireless, never-say-die attitude embodies his side and he has certainly earned the respect of Bulls’ top scorer.

Bickley continued: “I’ve loved playing with Jack since he has come back. He’s brilliant to have in the side and his work rate is incredible.

“It makes my life a lot easier having him alongside me.

He is creating chances and I know when a couple go in for him, more will follow.”

Meanwhile, Freeman cut a irate figure in the dugout for much of the second half, as his side pressed and probed without joy for much the half.

But he described Bickley as a special player and someone

who thrives in the big moments.

He said: “We knew it was going to be a tough game,

they’re a top team and have proved that in recent years.

“They are the best in this league at managing the game and killing a game off.

“I’m delighted Lorne managed to grab his goal. Between him and Fraser they both did so well to create a chance from very little.

“That why he’s in this team. It’s a brilliant, calm finish in the heat of the moment.”

His side venture back to the mainland this weekend,

to face eighth-placed Horley Town.

Leaders Farnham have now won 11 straight to begin

the season and sit four points clear of the Caesareans, with three games in hand.
