Jersey men's football team will be making the short trip across the Channel to Guernsey for the 2023 Island Games (34142048)

JERSEY have made the cut for the men’s football competition at the 2023 NatWest Island Games in Guernsey.

The event was oversubscribed by three teams, so the organising committee held a random draw to decide which islands would make up the 16-strong tournament.

Guernsey and Isle of Man were exempt from the draw as hosts and holders respectively, while the remaining 17 applicants were looking for luck.

Following the draw, the Caesarean side discovered they would indeed be taking part, but fellow Channel Island Alderney were one of the unlucky three to miss out.

To add insult to injury, Alderney also find themselves last in a reserve list that includes Western Isles and Hitra.

The draw was held securely in Guernsey on Saturday with all Islands invited to watch online.

The format was approved by the International Island Games Association and the football technical committee and was supervised by Jurat Stephen Jones.

Guernsey and Jersey met in the final at Springfield when Jersey hosted the Games in 2015, when the Sarnians came out on top.

The 2023 Island Games take place between Saturday 8 July and Friday 14 July.

The full list of competing sides is: Åland, Bermuda, Falkland Islands, Froya, Gozo, Greenland, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Jersey, Menorca, Orkney, Saaremaa, Shetland Islands, St Helena, Ynys Mon.
