HARRISON MOON says that his JEP Golden Boot Award is a tribute to his Grouville team-mates as well for helping him get the goals.
In his first season with the club, Moon finished top scorer out of the players in the JFA Combination Premiership last season, including all cup competitions, with 18 goals.
He belatedly received his award from JFA chief executive officer David Kennedy last week after he was unable to collect it at the JFA Awards night last month due to his nearest rival for the boot, Daniel Tostevin, being one goal behind, still having a match to play for St Clement in the Jeremie Cup final. However, Tostevin’s team lost to St Peter 2-0.
‘It was a good first season with the club,’ said Moon. ‘I’ve been taking my chances when I get them and making sure I hit the target.
‘As a team we did really well too, so all my goals go to them as well.’
At one stage in the season, Grouville looked like mounting a serious title challenge but they fell just short by three points, despite beating eventual champions St Clement 3-0 towards the end of the season in which Moon scored a brace.
They did, though, achieve some silverware when they beat JTC Jersey Wanderers 4-0 in the final of the Jersey FA Cup, on top of the Charity Cup win at the start of the season against the same opposition, winning 3-1, with Moon scoring the second goal.
However, Moon believes his side are one of the favourites to win a first ever league title for the club and follow in the footsteps of St Clement and he hopes he will improve upon his goal tally too.
‘It was a good season last season but we could have done better in the league. We did well in the cups though.
‘We’re now looking forward to next season and we’re definitely confident of winning the league.
‘That’s what we want. We want to win everything we possibly can.
‘I’ll be looking to get a few more goals too, hopefully in the high 20s. That’s the target.’
