Jersey FA Player of the Year shortlists released

Jersey's men's and women's Player of the Year awards will be presented on 27 May

TEENAGERS Roisin Flynn and Jay Dos Santos have been rewarded for their stellar performances throughout 2021/22 with nominations for JFA Player of the Year.

The pair have both been shortlisted for top honours as part of the JFA Combination’s annual awards, which now include trophies for Divisions I and II.

Rozel Rovers forward Flynn – the scorer of 13 goals in her first season as a senior, placing her second on the JEP Golden Boot standings – will challenge St Lawrence duo Fiona MacKinnon-Fox and Sophie Botterill for the Jersey Women’s League player of the year, while Dos Santos – key to St Clement’s Premiership-title charge this term – has been named alongside St Brelade midfielder Francis Lekimamati and St Peter defender Tom Blampied.

Dos Santos’ club colleague Jack Lumsden – another player turning heads at senior level this season – has been nominated for the under-18 player of the year award, alongside Jersey Wanderers striker Darryl Mvalo and St Paul’s talent Miguel Carvalho, while Barry Beatson [Trinity], 2021 winner Craig Leitch [St Paul’s] and James Begley [Grouville] are in the running for the O35s award.

Decio Alves, of Championship winners Portuguese United, is in contention for the second-tier prize, alongside St Ouen Reserves’ Elliott Hughes and St Peter Reserves’ Scott Welsh, and there is also a healthy mix of clubs with interest in the inaugural Division I and II awards.

One of Hugo Pereira [Dragoes de Jersey], Matt Rawlings [St Clement C] or Nick Holmes [St Brelade C] will win the Division I title, while Clife Silva [Portuguese Community Jersey] and Steve Ashton [Grouville C] join Trinity’s Phil Helleur on the list in Division II.

Helleur claimed the old Division II award – now the Championship – in 2007.

Meanwhile, unbeaten Walking Football League winners Trinity are represented by Paul Crompton, alongside Paul Lennon [St Peter] and Steve Martin [First Tower].

All shortlists were completed based on votes by opposing clubs within each division.

Winners will be announced at the Jersey FA’s annual dinner at the L’Horizon Hotel on Friday 27 May. The event is set to feature former Scottish sprinter and professional footballer George McNeill and former Dunfermline and Livingston manager Jim Leishman.
