ROZEL ROVERS will cling on to their Jersey Women’s League crown for another fortnight at the very least after beating champions-elect St Lawrence.
The Saints have been on the brink of reclaiming the Island title for a number of weeks but were denied the chance to celebrate once again as they were handed a second consecutive defeat.
Roisin Flynn scored twice in a 3-0 victory for Rozel to take her tally to 12 for the season – three shy of JEP Golden Boot leader Louise Van Der Vliet, from Jersey Wanderers. Nilza Velosa was also on target as part of a late flurry which took Rovers to the top of the table on goal difference.
St Lawrence require a point from their season-ending tussle with Grouville on 10 April to dethrone Rozel, whom they meet in the semi-finals of the Women’s JFA Cup on 3 April.
Grouville, who have not won a league match since March 2019, claimed their best result of the season on Sunday, when they hosted Wanderers at Le Boulivot.
Grace Paterson found the net for the parish club but goals from Van Der Vliet and Sam Silva secured a 2-1 triumph for the women in stripes, who will end the league campaign in third.
