Inter-island cricket to return in July

HEAD coach Neil MacRae says the return of inter-insular fixtures this summer gives Island cricketers the chance to ‘develop and improve’.

Jersey and Guernsey have agreed on a list of dates for inter-island clashes in July and August, after Covid derailed last year’s schedule. All ties will take place in Jersey.

The men’s 50-over inter-insular is due to take place on Saturday 21 August at Farmers Field and will be the culmination of the inter-island programme after under-11, U13 and U15 matches on 10 July and a three-match women’s T20 international series on 24-25 July.

‘The inter-insular will round off their summer programme well in July,’ said MacRae.

‘The U11 is the first age where they get to represent Jersey, so they will be really excited to play that.

‘Traditionally there’s always been a big rivalry, and it gives the younger players a chance to feel part of that, to represent their island. The more cricket we can play the better, it’s been a tricky time for everyone, not just cricket.’
