AFTER their stunning opening round Premier League 2 victory last weekend over Team Bath, the Evelyn Partners Jets are on the road again this weekend with Charnwood in their sights.
Captain Rosie Tonner and her sides impressed last weekend in their season opening win 52-45 away at Super League franchise club Team Bath in what was their first competitive fixture in six months.
Since their promotion from Premier League 3 way back in March, the Jets’ extensive pre-season training programme has allowed them to hit the ground sprinting.
The impressive multi-million pound Parkin Sports Centre at Loughborough High School will host the clash on Sunday morning, with home side Charnwood also coming in off the back of an impressive opening weekend win.
Charnwood overcame Linden 55-33 in a dominant display last Sunday which placed them handsomely second in the table on goal difference.
The league summit is currently occupied by Cumberland, who were utterly ruthless in their 73-34 demolition away at Tameside.
The Jets squad remains largely unchanged from last weekend.
Player of the Match Isabella Lofthouse will be one to watch this week and she is sure to receive another opportunity with fellow Centre’s Jacy Brown and Toni Chaytor still unavailable.
Florence Allo is named officially in the squad this week after filling in last weekend after her Regional League 3 fixture for the Jets 2s to allow some rotation in the defensive unit.
Lauren Devine’s return to court was highly praised by coach Emily Green last weekend and her appearance at Goal Keeper allowed Becca Forrest a new opportunity at Goal Defence, giving fresh options to the defence unit if required going forwards.
Youngsters Layla Dos Santos and Emily Le Gros do not feel quite so fresh in this squad anymore having been regular names throughout the last two seasons.
Dos Santos will offer excellent cover also in the defensive unit, while Le Gros is a solid alternative in the attacking D to rotate with the outstanding offensive duo of Lily Jones and Grace Thomson.
A win away at Team Bath last weekend will, as coach Green said, have sent a message to the rest of the league.
A win over Charnwood would further cement that message and could go a long way to establishing this Jets outfit as early pace setters in Premier League 2.
Action is scheduled to commence at 9.30am Sunday morning.
Elsewhere, the Jets programme is excited to announce the return to the mainland for both the U14 and U16 squads.
After a season break last year, both junior squads are able to return to the UK and both face mainland opponents this weekend as the programme continues to show strong commitment to the development of it’s future Jets stars.
