JERSEY’S WOMEN kicked off their WT20I Quadrangular Series in Switzerland yesterday with back-to-back commanding wins.
The series comprises Jersey, led by long-standing captain Chloe Greechan, alongside hosts Switzerland, Spain and Brazil.
Jersey took on the hosts in an early morning game one of the series and produced a ruthless 7-wicket win courtesy of an unbeaten 85 from Grace Wetherall.
After electing to bowl first, Jersey restricted the hosts to 138 for 6 from their 20 overs. After a solid opening stand of 61, Jersey hit back well.
Greechan was excellent with the new ball, conceding just 13 runs and picking up a wicket in her 4 overs. Erin Duffy, Annie Mossop and Olivia Bastin each claimed a wicket apiece also, while Flo Tanguy was the pick of the attack with 2 for 29.
With the bat, Wetherall (left) and Aimee Aikenhead have developed an outstanding partnership atop the order and it continued here.
They too added 61 for the first wicket, but in much quicker time.
Aikenhead fell for 22, but Wetherall took centre stage. The hard-hitting all-rounder smashed 14 fours and the first maximum of the series on her way to 85 from just 43 deliveries.
Jersey sealed the win by 7 wickets from just 12.2 overs.

Game two saw Jersey then face Spain, where an equally ruthless performance saw them to a 5-wicket win.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl again, Jersey were again excellent with the ball to limit the Spaniards to just 127 for 6.
Flo Tanguy again starred with the ball, this time promoted to open the bowling alongside Greechan, where she picked up 2 for 27. Analise Merritt, Duffy, Bastin and Mossop picked up the other four wickets between them, Duffy particularly impressive after a difficult first game with the ball.
In reply, Wetherall again looked good with two early boundaries, but she was pinned LBW – possibly fairly unfortunately – on the back leg for just 11.
But it was her opening partner Aikenhead (right) who assumed command on this occasion.
She struck 7 fours and a maximum herself to finish unbeaten on an excellent 58 from 47 deliveries, alongside a very impressive young Annie Mossop who also finished unbeaten on 19.
Jersey chased the score down in just 14 overs to sign their first day off in emphatic style – a day’s performance coach Liam Cook will surely have been delighted with.

Their third game of the series is scheduled for a 1pm start [BST] today against Brazil. Victory will seal with all certainty a spot in the final, scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
