Jersey Cricket Press Release

Jersey Cricket is looking forward to welcoming Nepal to the Island for the DFDS Summer Series, with two international matches taking place at NCC Grainville on Monday 13 July and Wednesday 15 July.
The fixtures form an important part of Nepal’s preparations for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 matches in Netherlands, with the visiting side spending a week in Jersey ahead of the tournament.
The series also provides Jersey with a valuable opportunity to test themselves against one of Associate Cricket’s most passionate and well-supported nations.
Both matches will begin at 11am, with spectators encouraged to come along and enjoy what promises to be an excellent showcase of international cricket.
For those unable to attend in person, both fixtures will be live-streamed with full commentary, allowing fans around the world to follow the action.
Jersey head coach, Neil MacRae believes the series is another significant step in the team’s continued development.
“We are looking forward to Nepal arriving for the two 50-over matches. Nepal are an experienced ICC League 2 team who almost beat England at the recent ICC T20 World Cup.
“They will be a strong opposition for our players as we start our Jersey Men’s 50 over international season. We are hoping for a great atmosphere at Grainville with the home support and Nepalese fans enjoying exciting cricket.”
Nepal’s visit further strengthens Jersey Cricket’s growing reputation as a destination for high-quality international cricket, with the Island continuing to attract leading Associate nations for both competition and training.
The DFDS Summer Series promises two entertaining contests between ambitious Associate sides, with Jersey eager to make home advantage count against one of the world’s most exciting teams.
End of Release
Nepal’s rise in world cricket has been remarkable.
The nation of almost 30 million is now ranked 17th in the ICC ODI rankings and recently made its first appearance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Following Afghanistan’s rapid emergence as a leading cricket nation, many believe Nepal could be the next Associate side to follow in their footsteps.

Jersey have met Nepal just once before, during the 2015 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier in Belfast. Jersey won by seven wickets on that day, with a fresh-faced Jonty Jenner (right) top-scoring.
11 years on, only Jenner and captain Chuggy Perchard remain from that squad.
“Nepal was actually my first away trip with Jersey and where I made my debut,” said Perchard.
“What an amazing place to play. Cricket is their national sport, the players are heroes and they live and breathe the game.
“We’ve got a very strong squad, but Nepal are an excellent side also. They’re fully professional now and coming off an impressive World Cup campaign.
“Although these matches are technically friendlies, there’s plenty to play for. We’ve got two huge tournaments later this year, so competition for places is red hot.

“This is a great opportunity for players to put their hands up against quality opposition.”
Nepal’s famously passionate supporters are expected to travel to Jersey in large numbers, with more watching via the worldwide live stream.
“They’re an incredibly passionate sporting nation and it’s exciting to host them,” Perchard added.
“These games, along with the two matches against the UAE later this month, give us exactly the sort of high-quality opposition we need ahead of a massive second half of the season.”
