Games Hot Takes: Elliot backs Jersey for gold in Glasgow

We sit down with each member of the JEP sports desk to get their predictions for Glasgow 2026. First up: Elliot Corbel, who will be leading our coverage from the studio back home in Jersey.

For Elliot, the chance to lead the JEP’s Games coverage is the highlight of the sporting calendar.

“I’m excited to lead this team in the covering of one of the biggest events in global entertainment, let alone in global sport, Jersey’s place at the Games is something for us to cherish and celebrate, and it’s incredibly exciting to have the opportunity to spread the positive message of the hard-working men and women of Team Jersey through their journey.”

The ones to watch

Asked who he is most excited to see live, Elliot picked out names across the programme.

“I think Olly Dodds will be an excellent competitor in the weightlifting. He’s worked really hard to get there and I believe he could be in for an excellent result. Both Lucy Woodward and Evan Campbell will be exciting in their multi-discipline athletics events.

“And it’s hard to look past Filip Nowacki in the pool. The young man is world class and it’s so exciting to have someone of his level in the Jersey system. I can’t wait to watch him race.”

The dark horse

Away from the headline names, Elliot believes Jersey’s bowlers could surprise a few people in Glasgow.

“My dark horse could be the bowls team. With the likes of Malcolm De Sousa competing at his fifth Games, the experience is there and they have the quality to challenge anybody.”
