JERSEY will be represented in four sports at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, through a 21-strong squad announced today.
Seven of the nine athletes who competed for the Island at the 2023 Youth Games in Trinidad & Tobago have progressed onto the senior stage, including six in the pool.
Oscar Dodds, Matthew Deffains, Megan Hansford, Filip Nowacki, Sam Sterry and Isaac Thompson have all built on the platform provided by the junior event three years ago, and track sprinter Jamie Oldham is also stepping up for the main event this summer.
Sterry’s sister, Hannah (17), Dodds’ brother, Isaac, and Clara Ginnis also feature in the swimming contingent, while Evan Campbell (decathlon) and Lucy Woodward (left) (heptathlon) are set to make history as Jersey’s first track & field multi-eventers.
New Zealand-based, Jersey-born sprinter Zach Saunders and Island 100m record holder Steven Mackay have also been named by the Commonwealth Games Association of Jersey (CGAJ).
Bowlers Ross Davis and Malcolm De Sousa return – the former for a third consecutive Commonwealth Games and the latter for a fifth, having made his debut at Delhi 2010. They will be joined by Taylor Greechan and a ladies trio of Fiona Archibald, Sara Douglas and Abbey Andrieux.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Steven Rabet is set to become CGAJ’s first judoka in 36 years, following Chay Pike’s appearance at Auckland 1990. The Scot, who competed in the -66kg class at the Junior European Cup in Lithuania last month, is ranked fourth in the British U20 rankings and qualifies to represent the Island through his Jersey-born grandparents.

“Supporting a pathway into senior elite sport is really important to us and hopefully this will inspire others, as we look ahead to the next Youth Games in Malta in 2027 and then on to India in 2030.
“I’m also pleased that we’ll be represented in new events this summer, including judo, decathlon and heptathlon. The excitement is building and I’m looking forward to seeing all of our talented athletes in action.”
