JERSEY’S Callum Osmand wrote his name in Celtic FC history playing a vital role as his side sealed the Scottish Premier League title in the most dramatic season finale.
20 year-old Osmand came off the bench to assist the second and scored the third as Celtic sealed a 3-1 win over Hearts at Celtic Park to leapfrog them on the final day and secure their fourth Scottish Premiership in five years.
Heading into the game, Celtic sat one point adrift of season-long leaders Hearts, who themselves were chasing their first Scottish title since 1960.
Avoiding defeat would have sealed Hearts the title and ensured a first non-Old Firm club (either Celtic of Rangers) would win the title for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s Aberdeen did it in 1985.
A late first half goal from Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland broke the deadlock for the visitors, but Hearts’ joy was cancelled moments before the break as Celtic drew level from the penalty spot by Arne Engels.
Hearts looked close to holding on, but the substitution of Jersey-born Osmand in the 73rd minute changed the game.
As the clock neared the 90, Osmand found an assist for striker Daizen Maeda to give them the lead in the 87th minute, before he himself scored the goal to put the result beyond doubt in the eighth minute of stoppage time.
Despite struggling with injury in his debut season for Scotland’s most successful club, he has produced season-defining moments with dramatic late winners first in the Old Firm derby against Rangers, and now to win them the Scottish Premiership title.
