NICK GREENWOOD, playing for Wellington, scored 103 on Day 2 of their Plunket Shield match against Canterbury at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch, his second century in as many matches.

His second professional century sees his season tally rise to 397 runs from 10 innings in New Zealand’s premier domestic 4-day competition, the third highest for his side in this season’s competition.

Greenwood, who represents Jersey internationally but plays his domestic cricket in New Zealand, notched his maiden First Class century just last game with 143 against Central Districts.

No sooner did his first professional century come than his second arrived in the very next game.

Canterbury batted first and amassed 336 all out on Day 1 at the Hagley Oval, Matthew Boyle top scoring with 97 and New Zealand test legend Tom Latham also contributing 79.

In reply, Wellington looked all at sea against the Canterbury attack, Greenwood aside. The elegant opener struck an impressive 16 boundaries and a maximum on his way to 103 from just 133 balls out of a total team score of just 208, the next highest scoring being 25.

With a healthy lead of 118, Canterbury stuck the knife in in the second innings, declaring just 3 wickets down for 297 from just 41.3 overs, Latham this time notching an unbeaten 101 and Boyle again starring with an unbeaten 63 from just 22 balls.

This left Wellington a mighty 425 runs required for victory in the fourth innings.

Greenwood made 20 in the chase, as Wellington fell to 224 all out and a hefty 201 run defeat. However, consecutive centuries for the young opener sees his stock continue to rise.

With two games remaining in the Plunket Shield season, Auckland at home and Otago away, Greenwood will be looking to keep this purple patch going and finish the season on a high before he returns to Jersey colours this English summer.
