WHILST there might have been a little more breeze for the third race in the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club’s Pallot Glass & Windows Frostbite Series, there can have been no reason to complain about the conditions.
The sun was ever-present; seas were slight with the wind just a bit shifty between west and northwest.
Unlike the crack of dawn starts of the two previous races, boats came to the line at midday for a tactical race in St Aubin’s Bay with the Club’s Hobie Cat fleet, racing in the Hobie Winter Series, adding to the spectacle.
Having retired in Race 2, David Jones and Geoff Blackstone’s X332, JAX, recovered to take line honours and clinch her second win of the series a couple of minutes ahead of David Carter’s Sunfast 3200, Lady Penelope, with Darren Stower’s First 36.7, Altair, third.
Even closer competition was the order of the day in the Quarter Ton class with Steve Pearl and partners’ Conrad 760, Tom Bombadil, taking line honours in the class and the race by just six seconds over Team Fahrenheit’s Farr 727, Fahrenheit.
Team Super Q’s Farr 727, Super Q, although finishing second over the line, came third on corrected time.
Hani Salem’s UFO27, Matchless, sailed a lonely race in Class 2 but was third in the classes 1 and 2 combination. Sailing Class 3, Don Thompson’s Foxhound achieved a clear win over Nick O’Hare’s Westerly Fulmar, Honky Tonk.
Race 4 of the RCIYC Pallot Glass & Windows Frostbite Series is scheduled for a midday start on Sunday 14th December.
