LOCAL football roared back into action with the JFA Bowl and the JFA Cup kicking off a packed weekend of fixtures. Teams from every division battled it out in the tournament, while Premiership 2 also made its return.
In the Cherry Godfrey Women’s Division, Sports Club of Jersey hosted St Peter. It proved a massive weekend for Sports Club as they secured their first ever win in local football with a 3-1 win over St Peter Women.
A hat-trick from Vanessa Ramos, including a wonderful free-kick, proved the difference in the sides first ever victory.
Jersey’s second division saw Rozel Rovers FC win their second in a row as they rise to the top of the table.
Despite going down to ten men, Rozel battled their way to a second straight victory, with goals from Nathan MacDonald and Oskar Sibilski
It was a turbulent afternoon for the hosts, who missed a penalty and had two goals disallowed for offside, before Thomas Proffitt saw red for dissent just before half-time.
Elsewhere in Premiership 2, Trinity First hosted St John First at Les Quennevais, with both sides still in search for their first win of the season.
Trinity looked set to take all three points, with a brace from Riley Brennan and a single from Aarron Scott giving Trinity a 3-2 lead, until a dramatic 97th-minute equalizer from Pat Dixon snatched a point at the death to mark St John’s first point of the season.
Premiership 2 sides St Lawrence First and Dragoes De Jersey both had short-lived cup runs. St Lawrence drew Premiership 1 side St Paul’s First to kick off their JFA Cup campaign, but the yellows proved too tough of a test for the Grills.
St Paul’s showed their dominance with a 9-0 victory over St Lawrence. Last season’s top goal scorer Callum Gilroy netted four times to mark his return to local football.
In the JFA Bowl, Dragoes De Jersey fell victim to a second half masterclass from St Peter Reserves. Joshua Gordinho gave Dragoes the lead after 25 minutes, but substitute Fergus Fox’s introduction proved a game changer.
Fox netted twice off the bench with Rhys Thomas adding to the tally to secure their place in the next stage of the cup with a 3-1 victory.
Jersey Wanderers Reserves booked their place in the next round with a comfortable 5-1 win over Grouville C. Le Boulivot saw Wanderers run riot over the home side.
A brace from Hugo Pereira, helped on by goals from Zac Traynor, Luke Roscouet and James Cannard contributed to the red and white stripes victory.
St Ouen’s C team reigned supreme over Jersey Wanderers O35s with an 8-1 hammering. Adam Lester’s opener gave Wanderers a positive start, going into half time at 1-1.
But an impressive second half performance from the Championship 2 side, saw them score seven times to put Wanderers to bed.
Grouville’s O35s put on a wonderful display to progress in the JFA Bowl, a 3-1 win over Championship 2 side Trinity Reserves kicks off their cup journey.
James Jones, Luc Le Miere and Cameron Gibb were all on the scoresheet at Trinity Football Club.
