Jersey RFC men travel to take on London Scottish Lions tomorrow, aiming to back up their commanding 60-5 victory over Wimbledon last weekend to kick start their 2025/26 Regional 1 South Central campaign.

Despite the absence of club captain Evan Whitson last weekend, vice captain Scott Van Breda stepped up, filling the number 10 role also in the absence of star kicker Aaron Penberthy.

Van Breda was in superb touch however, finding the middle of the posts on four occasions along with a try of his own, in a game that saw eight different try scorers for the men in red.

Jersey are also bolstered by the return this week of captain Whitson, although he will start on the bench and Van Breda will resume captaincy duties.

The Caesareans sit second in the table after their first game, bettered only by CS Stags 1863, who romped to a 67-0 win over Maidenhead in their opening game.

Tomorrow’s opponents London Scottish Lions also secured a win in week one, however theirs was a much closer affair, taking a 46-42 win away over Camberley, despite surviving a last minute scare from the home side.

Both coach Myles Landick and captain Whitson have expressed their desire for promotion this season as a necessity. A commanding performance last week will leave the team feeling confident, particular with the fast start they managed, scoring twice in the first 15 minutes unanswered.

This was a particular area stressed by coach Landick, the need to hit games hard early and be “fully prepared to go from the off”. A 24-5 lead at half time last week will have been a satisfying start for the coach, who will be hoping for a similar showing from his side tomorrow.

Action from The Athletic Ground in Richmond is set to get underway tomorrow at 2pm.
