Jersey’s swimming sensation Filip Nowacki has backed up his 100m Breaststroke success on Wednesday evening in Romania with another gold medal performance in the 200m Breaststroke final to be crowned a double Junior World Champion.

Nowacki, 17, defeated current World Junior record holder Shin Ohashi from Japan by 0.32 seconds in a thrilling final to clock a Championship Record time of 2 minutes 7.32 seconds.

His efforts have backed up his gold medal efforts in the 100m Breaststroke event from earlier in the week, sealing a historic double for the teenager on the grandest of occasions.

Nowacki conquered the European Junior Championships this year, breaking Adam Peaty’s junior record in the process, and has now kicked on to deliver on the world stage.

“I’m over the moon with that,” said a delighted Nowacki in an interview immediately following the race, with his mother and girlfriend cheering on from the stands.

“Having come off a successful European Championships, to back it up here at the Worlds is an amazing feeling.

“I knew it was going to be a tough race going in, I think it took a medal to break the Championship record so to come out on top is great.”
