BRAZILIAN Jiu-Jitsu dominated the mats at Strive recently as competitors went head-to-head in an action-packed grappling tournament.

Spud Grappling’s 2024 Spring Edition saw competitors from different martial-arts gyms, including Brazilian Power Team Jersey and Gracie Barra Channel Islands, claim impressive wins – including a variety of submission finishes – across Gi and No Gi match-ups.

One of the organisers, Charlie Tromans, said the event was “a great success”.

He continued: “Everyone who competed did fantastic and I’m sure all coaches would be proud.

“Being able to bring that competitive experience to the talented grapplers we have here in Jersey is something we are very passionate about.

“As someone who always had to go away to compete in the mainland and Europe, in my younger years of BJJ, it hugely benefits to be testing yourself on the Island and without the cost of flights, travel and accommodation.”

He added: “We are always looking to expand and bring everyone the best experience we can.

“We had the brilliant sports students from University College Jersey mat-side on Saturday, giving sports massages and advice on recovery to all the competitors.

“For the first time also we collaborated with Fuel2Go. Having a stand serving lovely açai bowls to everyone and anyone, I would seriously recommend heading to their shop in town to grab yourself something.

“I want to thank everyone who stepped on the mats to take part and help out.”
