IT was a golden double for Jersey at the tennis at the NatWest Island Games – as both the men’s and women’s squads won their team events.

The team of Stuart Parker and Scott Weaver won the decisive doubles rubber against the Menorca pair of Oscar Richard Mesquida Berg and Alexander Xavier Mesquida Berg in a champions tie-break.

Parker had beaten Oscar Berg earlier in the day 6-3, 6-1 to give Jersey a 1-0 lead in the tie, but they were pegged back by Alexander Berg who beat Weaver 6-1, 6-1.

The Jersey duo took the first set in the doubles, but the Bergs against levelled the tie by taking the second.

But, fortunately for Jersey fans, Parker and Weaver held their nerve to take the Championship tie-break and the gold medal.

A few minutes earlier, the team of Tash Forrest and Antonija Sokic had defeated Gotland in a decisive double decider of their own to claim women’s team gold.

The golds were Jersey’s third and fourth of the Guernsey Games.
